About A/Prof Philip Hayward

A/Prof Philip Hayward is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon who performs the full range of adult cardiothoracic surgery. Much of his experience is in complex coronary artery bypass surgery, performed with both traditional and novel techniques, and he has a growing practice in minimally invasive valve replacement and coronary bypass. He also has an interest in surgical safety for very elderly patients.

A/Prof Hayward studied medicine at the University of Oxford and trained in heart and lung surgery in London. He then came to Melbourne as a visiting fellow, before beginning his consultant career in the UK. In 2008 he returned to the Austin Hospital.

Alongside his surgical practice, he remains actively involved in research and in teaching at the University of Melbourne. He operates at one public hospital and six private hospitals.
